Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back!

For the first few weeks this term we are focusing on communicating Personal Narratives in Inquiry. Last term all students participated in workshops to build skills in movie making, podcasting, dance and art as possible vehicles to communicate a personal narrative. Every child will plan and create their own form of narrative.
Next week (Monday 9 May) we have a number of visitors coming to the school to present their narratives. It will be a great way for the children to experience quality models of personal narratives.

Year 7 Emerging Leaders
Over the course of the year we have a number of emerging leaders experiences planned for our Year 7s. We have invited James Beck from Attitude to talk to the Year 7s next Monday about leadership and 'bringing your A game' to everything you do.  This is an alternative to Young Leaders Day. In the past, only 10 students were able to participate in Young Leaders Day and we are keen to include all Year 7s in leadership experiences this year.

Kaiapoi High
The leadership staff from Kaiapoi High will be speaking to our Year 7 and 8 students on Wednesday afternoon. Bruce Kearney (principal) will be staying at 2:50 to speak to parents and answer questions. Year 7 and Year 8 parents are welcome to come along.

Year 8 Pizza Fundraising
Our first date this term is Friday,  May 20.

Debating
We have the trials for our two debating teams on Friday afternoon. The children have been asked to prepare to speak for 1min on the affirmative or negative of this moot:  "Social media is anything but social." Only brief notes can be used as a guide.  We will looking for persuasive content and confident speakers. The first debate will be held next week against two North Canterbury schools.

Homework
Year 7 children should be completing Pathways and the Year 8s will be working through their research and completing diary entries for their leadership projects.

Reflections
The 'blue folders' will be going home on Wednesday with Learning Pathways and KC Learning Stories. Some of our children do not have a Learning Pathways folder - these can be purchased from the office.

Regards

Linda and Vikki
