Welcome to Term 3 - Halfway through the year already!!
We loved the learning conferences last term - the children communicated their learning brilliantly and it's great to touch base with families.
Our news:
Aspire Class Programme
We will be continuing our standard SRL programme which includes basics and Level Up (Level up builds critical thinking and addresses our Reading goals).
Our serial story this term is Unwind by Neal Schusterman. This will also be linked to reading goals and a study into character, plot and theme. Aspire students will be able to read an e-book copy of this book while we complete our study.
Cantamaths teams
The North Canterbury Cantamaths is on Tuesday the 9th of August.
Our teams will be busy preparing for this.
Year 8: Lucas Kerry, Macy Smith, Sasha Henley, Hunter Henley
Year 7: Charlotte Roche, Kieran Sinclair-Lomax, Helaman Hatcher, Gino Ritchie (res: Noah Mauger, Ella Hartel)
The ChCh (town) Cantamath competition is on Wednesday 24 August. There is a clash with our ski day, so we are looking at some possible solutions for this.
Camp Wellington
Pene will be sending out an update this week. We will also start a Wellington t-shirt design competition for the Year 8s.
Pathways
We will be organising some lunchtime catch-ups for Year 7 students who have yet to complete any pathways stars. We expect all Year 7 students to complete Pathways for homework, and the alternative would be weekly homework sheets (reading, maths etc).
Year 8 Leadership Project
This term the Year 8s should be finishing off their projects (or completing some action that can be continued). We will organise an afternoon near the end of the term for the Year 8s to showcase their work.
