This year our Year 8 Leadership camp will be held directly after Waitangi day on February 9th and 10th. It is held at the Papanui Youth Development Trust (1A Harewood Road) and will be an intensive learning experience based on Sean Covey’s “7 Habits of Leadership”. This is a terrific experience for the children and one that helps to set us up for the Year 8 focus on leadership this year. Parents are asked to transport their children to camp on Tuesday morning and to arrive between 9:00-9:15am.
On Tuesday evening we sleep on site in open indoor spaces upstairs (girls) and downstairs (boys). Children will need a mattress, pillow and sleeping bag. There are shower facilities in the building.
On Tuesday night all parents are invited to share dinner with us from 6pm. We have limited seating for the night meal so we can only invite parents to share this with us (not siblings). The students also prepare leadership speeches and these are shared to a parent audience on Wednesday after lunch at 1.30pm. After the speeches the children are able to go home with you.
As always parent support is an essential part of the success of this camp and we require the following assistance:
● 5 parent volunteers to make salads for the Tuesday night dinner (no nuts, or nut products please). Containers will be provided for this.
● 2 parent volunteers to set up and run the kitchen at 4.30pm on Tuesday
● 1 male parent to supervise the boys overnight
● 1 or 2 parents to organise the delivery and pick up of a BBQ to cook with on Tuesday night
If you are able to help can you please email Vikki (v.grant@clarkville.school.nz), or Linda (l.baran@clarkville.school.nz) , or pop into Aspire.
The cost for this camp is $80 and needs to be paid (if possible) before the 9th of February. We have negotiated this price down by catering the food ourselves. We are asking for volunteers to make salads and for children to supply enough meat for the BBQ to feed your family. If you are not one of the five salad providers could you please provide a small amount of home baking in a disposable container. It is essential that this food is brought along on the morning of camp to ensure dinner is served on time.
As always if there are any concerns about money or the cost of this experience then please come and speak to either Pene or us about it.
